A4 Size Calculator
Choose the paper series and size, the orientation and the print resolution. The calculator shows the sheet in millimetres, centimetres and inches, the pixel size at your DPI and the area.
- A and B series
- mm, inches and pixels
- Any DPI
300 DPI is standard for print. 150 is fine for posters seen from a distance, and 72 or 96 is screen resolution.
A4 is 210 by 297 mm, and every A size is half the one before. The ISO 216 system starts with A0, a sheet of one square metre. Fold it in half and you get A1, again for A2, and so on. Every size keeps the same 1 to √2 shape, so you can enlarge or reduce between sizes without cropping.

| A8 | 52 × 74 | 2.0 × 2.9 | 614 × 874 |
Pixels are at 300 DPI. Each size has exactly half the area of the size before it.
A sizes nested
Each half of the last. Slide the size number.
Two A4 sheets side by side make an A3. Two A3s make an A2. The shape never changes.
How A sizes are worked out
From one square metre. Step through it.
Start with A0
One square metre, sides 1 : √2.
Sizes are rounded down to the nearest millimetre, which is why A4 is 210 × 297 rather than an exact half of A3.
A4, Letter or Legal
Standard office paper. Compare them.
The ISO standard sheet, used worldwide.
Slightly wider and shorter than A4.
Same width as Letter but longer.
A4 is used almost everywhere except the US and Canada, which use Letter. Set the right size before printing to avoid cut-off margins.
