Measure wall to wall. If a wardrobe or radiator takes floor space, take it off the measurement.
The right bed leaves space to walk round it. Allow about 60 cm (2 ft) on both sides and at the foot, plus 10 cm for the frame. A queen bed needs a room of at least about 2.8 × 2.7 m; a king needs about 3.2 m across.
