Use the adult length, snout to tail tip, even for a young animal.
A ground lizard needs about 4 × its length, 2 × deep and 2 × tall. A bearded dragon of 20 in needs at least 84 × 42 × 42 in, about 641 gallons. A tree dweller of 10 in needs 24 × 24 × 30 in, taller than it is long.
