Measure the door at its narrowest point, with the door open.
A sofa looks best at about two thirds of the wall. Allow about 60 cm of seat for each person plus 30 cm for the arms, so a 3-seater is about 210 cm long. On a 3.5 m wall, the longest that looks balanced is about 233 cm. Keep 45 cm clear at each end and to the coffee table.
