A garage needs room round the car, not just for it. Allow about 0.9 m beside each car to open doors and 1.2 m in front to walk past. A family car 4.8 m long and 1.9 m wide needs a single garage about 3.7 × 6 m inside. A double comes to about 6.5 × 6 m.

How much space do I need beside a car?
About ninety centimetres to open the doors and get out comfortably.
How high should a garage ceiling be?
At least two point four metres, or three metres for a car lift.
Does a large SUV need a bigger garage?
Yes. Allow about half a metre more in length and some extra width.
How much space does a workshop need?
At least one and a half to two metres of depth for a bench and tools.
