Measure height without shoes. For growing children, choose the size that fits now, not one to grow into.
A bat that is too long or heavy slows the swing. Bat speed matters more than bat mass. Most players hit better with a bat they can control easily. Height sets the length, and the league rules or the player's strength set the weight.

Cricket sizes run from Size 1 for young children to Short Handle for most adults. Very tall players use Long Handle.

Drop is the length in inches minus the weight in ounces. A 30 in bat at 20 oz is drop 10.

Baseball bat materials. Compare them.

Big sweet spot and less vibration.
Traditional and required in pro leagues.
Many leagues require a certification stamp such as USA Baseball or BBCOR. Check before you buy.
