Measure the mattress depth with any topper on it.
A quilt is the mattress top plus a drop over the sides. A coverlet just hides the mattress, a bedspread falls to the floor and a throw sits on top. A queen coverlet over a 12 inch mattress is about 90 × 105 inches with a pillow tuck.
