Your measurements

Around the narrowest part

Around the widest part

Based on standard UK high street sizing. Some brands run large or small, so check their own chart if they publish one.

Most people are more than one size. It is common for bust, waist and hips to point to different sizes. A fitted dress has to fit the largest of the three, so that measurement sets your size. For stretch fabrics, wrap dresses and A-line skirts, the looser areas give you more freedom.

Each size step adds about 5 cm to bust, waist and hips up to UK 20. Larger sizes often step by 6 cm, so brand charts vary more at the top of the range.

Waist and dress size

The waist is the usual deciding measurement for fitted styles. Slide your waist size to see the size in each system.

US sizes are four lower than UK sizes and EU sizes are 28 higher. Australian sizes match UK sizes.

How to measure yourself

Use a soft tape and stand relaxed. Follow these steps.

Bust

Around the fullest part of your chest, with the tape level under the arms.

Measure over underwear or close-fitting clothes, not over a jumper. Keep the tape level all the way round and snug without pulling tight.

Fitted, stretch or loose

The style decides which measurement counts. Pick a style.

Tailored dresses with zips and darts. Choose the size that fits your largest measurement.

Bias-cut and slip dresses skim the hips, so hip measurement matters most. Bodycon and tailored styles need all three to fit.
