Toddler vs Junior Foot Gauges: Which One Do You Need?
Foot gauges come in toddler and junior versions. Learn which one suits your child and how to read each.

Foot gauges come in 2 versions: toddler and junior. Both give you a length number and a width number. Each covers a different range of sizes.
Toddler gauges
Toddler gauges suit first walkers and young children. The smaller base fits under little feet and covers the early sizes, where feet grow fastest.
Junior gauges
Junior gauges run into the larger children’s and junior sizes. Switch to the junior gauge once your child’s longest toe passes the end of the toddler scale.
Reading either gauge
You read both gauges the same way:
- Put the heel against the back.
- Read the length at the tip of the longest toe.
- Read the width across the widest part of the foot.
- Measure both feet and keep the larger numbers.
Our foot gauge guide walks through each step. The calculator page links to printable toddler and junior guides.
Using the numbers
The size calculator takes lengths from 97 to 281 and widths from 67 to 227 from either gauge. It returns a shoe size and a width fitting.
