How Often Should You Measure Your Child's Feet?
Children's feet grow fast. Use this schedule to check their size, from first steps to secondary school.

Children’s feet grow fast and in spurts, and kids rarely say when shoes get tight. Regular checks keep you ahead of growth.
A rough schedule
- Toddlers (1 to 3 years): every 6 to 8 weeks
- Young children (3 to 6 years): every 2 to 3 months
- Older children (6+ years): every 3 to 4 months
- Teenagers: at least twice a year, and more during growth spurts
Treat these as guidelines. Each child grows at their own pace.
Good moments to measure
- Before a new school term
- Before you buy any new pair, including wellies and trainers
- When your child trips more, or pulls their shoes off at every chance
- After a growth spurt in height
A quick at-home check
- Measure both feet on a foot gauge.
- Enter the larger length and width in the calculator.
- Compare the result with the size and width printed inside their current shoes.
Buy new shoes when the new size is bigger, even if the old pair still looks fine.
Don’t forget socks
Measure in the socks your child wears most. Thick winter socks change the fit.
